* I am independent. I take no donations. I only answer to my constituents.
* I have lived in Orinda for 40 years. Raised my children here. I want to see Orinda and Moraga to be as safe as is possible for all families served by MOFD.
* MOFD was created to focus on the best response to medical emergencies. Putting at least one paramedic (not just an EMT) on each response vehicle and providing local ambulance service for rapid transport has served us well since MOFD's creation. 90 percent of all MOFD emergency responses are medical. MOFD does a great job and I'll make sure this continues.
* The greatest threat to our safety at this time is destruction by wildfire. While the risk may be low, the consequences could be devastating. One third of the homes in Orinda and ten percent of the homes in Moraga have lost their fire insurance because the insurance industry considers them too dangerous to insure. MOFD needs to commence a vigorous wildfire prevention program including detailed modeling of fire risk to identify where fuel mitigation is necessary, and then an aggressive fuel mitigation program using available tax dollars.
* Balance MOFD's financial stability with enhancing safety. Current projections show MOFD accruing huge increases ($90 million) in financial reserves over the next ten years, and those projections may be conservative. While I am fiscally conservative, I don't believe that this is the best use of Orinda's and Moraga's tax dollars. I will open the discussion of priorities.
